Today is Day 25 of Movember and I have grown a mustache to try and help promote awareness for men’s health issues. I have a team and am trying to raise money for prostate cancer research, but for me it, as probably with most, the main reason I “mo” (grow a mustache in November) is because I have seen the effects of cancer on men and I want other men to take their health seriously.
When I was in high school the father of one of my best friends died of prostate cancer after a long struggle and lots of treatment. When my wife and I were on our honeymoon, her mom’s cousin died of prostate cancer, also after a long and painful treatment process. More recently, my uncle died after a long battle with cancer.
Prostate is one of the most frequently diagnosed forms of cancer in men, right after skin cancer. The Movember prostate cancer information page has a lot of great information on prostate cancer, including statistics, as well as advice on testing and treatment. If you’re a man, take care of yourself. A lot of times we get too busy taking care of others (or just doing other stuff) to think about our health. Do yourself and your loved ones a favor and go to an annual physical. Talk to your doctor about testing. It may be the best decision you ever make.
What do YOU think? Let me know...
