Taegeuk 8 (Poomsae) – Kukkiwon World Taekwondo Federation (WTF)
Director of Application Development
My kids started taking Taekwondo (Kukkiwon – World Taekwondo Federation WTF) at Protec USA Tae Kwon Do in Cedar Hill / Duncanville, TX. They really enjoyed it and I thought it would be something to do together, so I started doing it with them.
I was surprised at how much of a workout it is. There are a lot of warmup exercises, including pushups, crunches, etc., as well as blocks and punches. The main goal at our studio is to learn the Poomsae, which are the Kukkiwon forms. I found the videos for each form on YouTube, so I’ll be creating posts here for me to learn and practice each one. I hope they help you, as well.
Today is Day 25 of Movember and I have grown a mustache to try and help promote awareness for men’s health issues. I have a team and am trying to raise money for prostate cancer research, but for me it, as probably with most, the main reason I “mo” (grow a mustache in November) is because I have seen the effects of cancer on men and I want other men to take their health seriously.
When I was in high school the father of one of my best friends died of prostate cancer after a long struggle and lots of treatment. When my wife and I were on our honeymoon, her mom’s cousin died of prostate cancer, also after a long and painful treatment process. More recently, my uncle died after a long battle with cancer.
