I went to the store and checked out the phones. They had a Droid Bionic, Droid Razr Maxx and a Droid 4 right next to each other, which was great, because those are the three phones that I wanted to compare. I looked at the phones and while they were all impressive, I REALLY like the Droid 4. Some people may not like a bulky phone or see the need for a hardware keyboard, but I immediately pulled out the keyboard to try it out. It is amazing! The keyboard is great. The buttons are larger and have a better shape than the keys on my current Droid and there is even a row of numbers at the top so you don’t have to get all ALT happy when you’re typing in an address or phone number. I didn’t see any of the ghosting issues that have been talked about in reviews. I was actually impressed with the display. I like the way it looks.
I set all three phones to 4G LTE and installed the Speed Test app. While they were all impressive, the Droid 4 was blazing fast. After playing with all three for a little while, I decided that the Droid 4 was the one for me. I asked the sales rep if I could get the $100 discount at the store, but was told that the offer was only good online. What I didn’t realize at the time, was that the discount was a special leap day sale.
I went home and later in the evening decided to go ahead and go through with the upgrade. I went through the process, but realized at the time that I had a $50 loyalty discount that I couldn’t use, so I chatted with customer service to see if I could get that discount, as well. I was told that if I used the $100 discount, not only could I not add my $50 loyalty discount, but I would also lose the discount. That was my downfall. I got greedy and wanted to get all of the discounts possible. It was late, so I decided to check back the next day to see if I could transfer the discount to another phone on our family plan and still get the $100 discount, only to find out that the really awesome discount was a one-day only leap day sale!
So now, here I am with my old Droid. I can now use my loyalty discount and get the Droid 4 for $149, but can’t bring myself to do it because of the deal I missed.
