Posting From WordPress to Google+

February 7, 2012 By Jonathan Jeter 2 Comments

Google+ WallpaperI’ve been working for the last few weeks to try and figure out an easy way to automatically add posts from my WordPress blog to my Google+ page. Hoping that someone else had already created a plugin, I searched in vain both in the WordPress plugins directory, as well as other WordPress sites and forums. I thought I had finally found a way, however, convoluted to be able to semi-automatically add a blog post to my Google plus page. However, it seems like every time I almost figure it out, there’s still one piece missing.

A cool thing, though, is that if you use the Google+ badge on your site, you can +1 your post (which you should do anyway for all of your posts, right?) which then allows you to share the post on your wall. It’s an extra step, but it makes it easy for you to easily share your latest post on your Google+ page.

StumbleUpon Stops Direct Links

Here’s another Internet marketing play I’ve been following recently. A lot of people have started playing in the StumbleUpon playground because of the valuable traffic that can be obtained via the StumbleUpon network. StumbleUpon is changing the game again because instead of direct links to websites, the website links will be contained in the StumbleUpon iframe link.

The SEO implications are obvious. Links from StumbleUpon to target sites that were previously direct, followed (until recently) links from a PR8 site will now disappear, replaced by internal StumbleUpon links that load the target page in an iframe.

Once again, diversification in all online marketing efforts is the recommendation, as all efforts, no matter how successful, can and will change over time. Also, it highlights the fact that online marketing is a never-ending moving target, which means you cannot stop testing and learning to see how all the moving pieces affect your marketing efforts.

Removing the /blog Slug in WordPress MultiSite

January 27, 2012 By Jonathan Jeter 2 Comments

Wordpress LogoI ran into an interesting issue at work today. We’re setting up a company blog using WordPress and we’re using the multisite functionality to manage how different sections of the blog work. This may not be the most efficient way to do it, but in the corporate world, you want to make sure that the right people have the right access to the right sections so everyone can work in their own happy little space.

Everything was working fine until we started setting up permalinks according to the instructions provided by our SEO expert. The issue we ran into was that WordPress automatically adds a /blog slug in front of the permalinks. My understanding is that this slug is to avoid conflicts between permalinked categories on the main site and sub-sites that may have the same name. That makes sense. At the same time, though, there should be a clearly explained way to change this in the network admin section of the site.

WordPress

If you’re like me and have a lot of blogs that you manage, either for yourself because you have a lot of different ideas for what you want to put out on the Web or for multiple clients if you’re a web developer with multiple clients, ManageWP is a godsend.

DISCLAIMER: While I don’t currently have an affiliate relationship with ManageWP, I hope to have one in the future (once they get their affiliate program up and running).

ManageWP makes the work of maintaining and updating multiple blogs simple. When you log in to the site (after you have set up all of your blogs), you can instantly see which sites need WordPress updates, plugin updates, theme updates and have outstanding comments and spam. Then, with a click you can either see exactly which blogs need what updates, or you can just update everything automatically.

Last Day of Android Market 10-Cent Apps

Last Day of Android Market 10 Billion Download 10 Cent Sale

It has been a fun 10-day span of exploring and downloading Android Market apps. Some I had wanted to try and others I had never heard of before. One thing I learned during this week and a half was that I can actually try out apps any time, because the Android Market allows you to get a refund for apps within 15 minutes of ordering them. That’s really handy if you’re wanting to try an app and have the time to try it out.

In this post, I’ll list the apps that are available today and next week I’ll do a recap of the apps that were available during the 10 billion downloads sale and start reviewing the apps I’m using. Today’s apps are as follows:

The only problem is that the Android Market is experiencing a payment processing issue and if you try to by one of the apps, you get the following error: “An error occurred while processing your purchase. Please try again later.”

You can still buy most of the 10 cent apps today, if you use the Amazon App store. The following are the 10 cent apps available in the Amazon App store today:

Today’s 10 cent apps from the Android Market include Tetris! (YES!) …along with these other great apps.

  • TETRIS ® by ELECTRONIC ARTS INC (I know I already mentioned it, that’s why it’s at the top of the list.) This version of Tetris has great touch controls, allowing you to intuitively interact with the pieces.
  • Blue Skies Donation Wallpaper by KITTEHFACE SOFTWARE
  • Homerun Battle 3D by COM2US
  • Reckless Getaway by POLARBIT
  • Talking Tom Cat 2 by OUTFIT7
  • Kids Learn to Read (Preschool) by INTELLIJOY
  • ADWLauncher EX by ANDERWEB (I’ve been wanting this one for a while to control processes on my older phone, but this is a much better time to get it!)
  • Space Physics by CAMEL GAMES
  • Toki Tori by POLARBIT
  • Can Knockdown 2 by INFINITE DREAMS

I’ll be reviewing the different apps I get this week over the next couple of months and let you know which of these apps I start using permanently. Hopefully, I’ll get a tablet some time soon and be able to check out the HD apps, as well.

Android’s 10 Days of 10 Cent Downloads Continues

The Android Market continues its 10-day celebration of reaching 10 billion downloads by offering more premium apps for a mere 10 cents each. Today’s choices include the following:

  • Fruit Ninja by HALFBRICK STUDIOS
  • Berenstain Bears – Bedtime Battle by OCEANHOUSE MEDIA
  • AirSync by doubleTwist by DOUBLETWIST ™
  • Flick Golf! by FULL FAT PRODUCTIONS LTD
  • Star Chart by ESCAPIST GAMES LIMITED
  • Reckless Racing by POLARBIT
  • Christmas HD by DUALBOOT GAMES
  • NFL Rivals by NATURALMOTIONGAMES LTD
  • Beautiful Widgets by LEVELUP STUDIO
  • Read It Later Pro by READ IT LATER

If you have an Android phone or tablet, you should definitely take advantage of this special sale, as these prices are the lowest ever! One thing I found out, though, since I have an older phone with not much memory, is that if you uninstall an app within 15 minutes from the Android Market, the order automatically gets cancelled. So, if you are like me and have to pick and choose which apps you can run, just make sure your app is installed for at least fifteen minutes to take advantage of this great sale!

Android Market Reaches 10,000,000,000 Downloads

December 6, 2011 By Jonathan Jeter Leave a Comment

Android Market
Image via Wikipedia

The Android Market has surpassed 10 billion downloads and to celebrate, they are offering some great premium apps for 10 cents each, but only for 24 hours.

I just downloaded Endomondo Pro and Soundhound Pro for $.10 each. The 10 cent Android apps available as of this writing are the following:

Read the rest of Android Market Reaches 10,000,000,000 Downloads

  • SoundHound
  • Minecraft – Pocket Edition
  • SwiftKey X Keyboard
  • Endomondo Sports Tracker PRO
  • Great Little War Game
  • SketchBook Mobile
  • Fieldrunners HD
  • Color & Draw for kids: phone edition
  • Paper Camera
I have never seen such an array of really good apps offered at such a low price and you won’t find a price this low on iTunes, because apparently the minimum price for an app on iTunes is 99 cents. However, some of the app developers are offering their iPhone apps for $.99 to celebrate the Android market event. Kind of ironic, don’t you think?
